eibe brings the “House” down

The celebrated Green Apple Awards took place amidst a dramatic backdrop this year, at UNESCO World Heritage Site, and ceremonial London landmark, the Houses of Parliament.

Dragon’s Den winner and company director Chris Hopkins, of the environmentally-conscious Ploughcroft solar roofing company, handled proceedings.

Following Chris’ engaging story about his innovative mission to produce more energy-efficient products, the award ceremonies begun. The packed room provided an inspiring setting , as companies dedicated to helping the environment, gathered together to celebrate each other’s positive steps. From stories of large corporations encouraging car-pooling and providing efficiency lead driver training courses, to providing a fire station with vegetables grown on a community allotment, each story was an enlightening and often entertaining contribution to the event.

eibe play Ltd was delighted to accept a Green Apple Award for our project with the Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew, West London. Kew is dedicated to environmental issues and sustainability; working with eibe enabled them to create a new playground, “Treehouse Towers” that complements these ideals and Kew’s Steve Ruddy (picture above with eibe's Paul Redden) enthused:

“The Kew play experience really gets children excited and associates Kew with fun - the first step in getting life-long engagement with Kew and its vital work with plants and biodiversity.”

Kew Gardens is thrilled with the new addition, which has provided thousands of children with a fun introduction to the horticultural world. Treehouse Towers’ excellent play value and popularity, coupled with its natural and educational theming, work together to make this unit a great success with visitors and staff alike.

The Green Apple Awards strictly assess a variety of criteria including environmental benefits, social and financial benefits, energy efficiency, innovation and replicability. The area at Kew ticked all these boxes. This exciting new venture combined high play value with an educational learning experience, to give a unique addition to this world renowned site.

Green Apple Awards practice what they preach and compensated for the carbon footprint of each attendee by planting trees and reorganising the ceremonies to make travel plans more efficient. These awards are a fine example of what all companies should be pushing towards in this day and age; a diligent responsibility to take care of our environment and preserve and improve for the next generation. eibe’s managing director, Paul Redden, agrees saying:

“eibe is very excited to win its fourth Green Apple Award this year. Our dedication to environmental sustainability in our high quality projects will continue to work in line with the principles of this award”.

We are delighted that Kew will be enjoying its play area for years to come. We can’t wait to see what next year’s Green Apple Awards will bring.
