The Heights of Abraham is one of the Peak District’s most popular destinations. Set in the heart of the Derbyshire Dales in Matlock Bath, the Heights offer spectacular views and breath-taking scenery. Visitors can explore the caverns, ride the cable cars, view the exhibitions or have a relaxing stroll through the acres of woodland.

After an initial discovery meeting to discuss the concept of creating an outdoor playground on the lower area, the project began in earnest. Representatives of the popular tourist attraction outlined the vision to the eibe team and their plans to make Heights even more exciting and appealing to families. There were many stumbling blocks and challenges along the way.

Due to its sheer location - The Heights site is situated on a mountain with cable cars as the main route of access – there was a great deal of difficulty getting the materials on and off site. However eibe’s installation team and Heights own crew worked together to transport the equipment practically and safely, fixing it all securely in position. “Without the Heights teams’ effort and expertise it would have been impossible!” claims eibe Play Consultant Adam Parnell, “There ain’t no mountain high enough for eibe!”

 

The new state-of-the-art Woodland adventure provides an exciting play area for young children. The environmentally-friendly design complements the rural surroundings of the district. Filled with a range of towers, slides, a climbing wall, rope walks and an eagle’s nest, children can now exert all of their energy on the large play area and develop their social skills and fitness levels.

The total cost of the project amounted to £75,000 which has already proved to be a worthwhile investment. The new equipment has significantly increased the turnover at Heights of Abraham this year; subsequently, it has been discussed that the extra revenue may be invested into the development of the second park at the very peak of the site.
