What better way to officially open the new Valley Gardens Play Area in Harrogate than on Play Day 2009?
The Play Area and Paddling Pool which has always been a popular attraction to the visitors of the Valley Gardens and the Local Community was selected for a £170,000.00 refurbishment back in October 2008 as a result of a Big Lottery Fund application. |
 |
| After submitting their design proposals and following extensive consultation with the local community, school children, residents and even the Majoress conducted by the Borough Council, eibe Play were selected as the company to transform the new Play Area. |
 |
The work included the removal of all existing equipment, safety surfacing and fencing. The installation of new equipment, re-shaping and re-surfacing of tarmac paths throughout the play area, significant groundwork’s in turning old tarmac back to grass, the installation of new fencing, safety surfacing, and the laying of new turf. |
The work was completed in just 7 weeks, and has seen fantastic results. |
Children of any age and all abilities are catered for. The new play equipment combines challenge, adventure, fun and risk and much more!!! |
 |
Particularly popular is the new Water Play area which interacts with the existing paddling pool and uses its water as a source for the new water pump and water play system. The Castle Tunis has proved irresistible to toddler and junior explorers alike with children being able to scale the walls and climb the turrets up to the lookout tower. Whilst equipment such as the Snake Swing and the Aerial Cableway always have queues to get on them!!! |
The whole play area is buzzing with activity, it has become a real success and a superb contribution to the already popular Valley Gardens. People travel from near and far and even throughout the weekdays numbers of people visiting and using the play area is astounding. |
Mark Gornall, the Play Space Consultant for the Project commented “It’s wonderful to see the finished result. There have been a lot of people involved with this project whom have worked very hard to deliver this it and now that hard work is clear for everyone to see. This is a great site and somewhere which will be very popular for many years to come.”
