WestPark Childcare Centre Benefits from the Early Years Capital Grant

West Park Childcare Centre in Hull has recently had the opportunity to improve and develop its outdoor learning environment as the result of a successful Early Years Capital Grant Funding Application.

The Government funding which has been spread across three years gives Early Years settings tasked with delivering the Early Years Foundation Stage such as West Park, and many others the opportunity to improve it’s setting. The funding which is mainly focused at Outdoor Play and ICT provision gives Early Years settings an opportunity to apply for a welcomed cash injection into improving these areas of learning.

Areas of learning identified as a focus was Physical play, involving balance, co-ordination and strength along with challenge and most importantly fun! To achieve this eibe proposed using the Ibondo Sofia climbing Unit. Superb for the 3-5 years age range as it offers great play value and can be fitted into a relatively small, compact space. As it has a different play activity on all four of its sides it gives children of varying confidence and abilities the opportunity to play and interact together. Along with that, the superior finish of eibe’s timber makes certain that it is child friendly for little hands.

eibe Play worked with Tracey Finn, West Parks Nursery Manager to select equipment from the eibe range and develop a design which would take advantage of nurseries current Play Area layout and enhance it further.

Also identified as a high priority was a sand play area which would allow the children to experience a different play surface, allow them to use the sand to dig, built and construct. Within this eibe’s Midi Sand Play Building Site was used. With its bucket pulley system, its sand chutes and various other elements it is offering the children hours of fun.

The work took less than one week to install and Tracey is already planning the next stage of the nurseries Play Area improvement plan with the potential of a Canopy/Shade area and also a Water Play Zone soon to be added.
