Hellingly Parish Council's vision was clear: a farmyard-themed play environment that was fully inclusive and accessible for all users, catering for children aged 2 to 14 years. Accessibility was a central requirement, particularly given the play area's proximity to local amenities and its year-round use by the community.
After a tender and consultation period, eibe Play was awarded the contract, and works commenced in early 2026. From the outset, the design team prioritised all-weather, all-ability accessibility — ensuring every play item could be enjoyed by every child, regardless of age or ability.
The new play space was designed to offer a rich variety of play experiences, from physical challenge to sensory exploration, all wrapped in a charming farmyard aesthetic.
The centrepiece of the refurbished play area is a Tractor Multi-Play Unit — a striking themed structure from eibe Play's renowned Steelox range, packed with play opportunities for children aged 5–14. The unit features an exciting slide, climbing walls, and ladders, offering endless adventure.
Complementing this is a Sensory Toddler Farm House with Slide and Sensory Play Panels, designed to stimulate creativity and challenge younger children in a safe and engaging environment.
A new swing frame combination caters for all ages and abilities, incorporating junior, toddler, SEN, and nest swing seats — ensuring children of every age and ability can play side by side.
The sensory play experience is further enriched by a selection of themed additions including a Rain Wheel, Spinning Bowl, and Farm Animal Themed Rockers, each adding a new layer of discovery and delight for the children who visit.
eibe Play's installation team rose to the challenge of working through an exceptionally hot summer, completing the project on schedule and to the highest standard.
The play area was officially opened on a beautiful late summer afternoon — and eibe Play made it a day to remember. The entire eibe Play UK team attended, bringing with them a magician, a face painter, and an ice cream truck offering free ice cream to the local community. The event was a joyful celebration, warmly received by residents, families, and children alike.
The transformed Lower Horsebridge Play Area is now a vibrant, inclusive, and fully accessible space that the whole community can be proud of. eibe Play is delighted with the outcome and looks forward to continuing its partnership with Hellingly Parish Council for many years to come.
