Bonsey Gardens Play Area Refurbishment in Wrentham Creates Inclusive Space for Families

In 2025, eibe was delighted to deliver the refurbishment of the play area at Bonsey Gardens in Wrentham, creating a vibrant, inclusive and engaging space for children and families within the local community. We aimed to provide a high-quality play environment that caters for a wide age range, from toddlers through to teens, while supporting children’s physical, social and emotional development.

From the outset, inclusivity and social play were key considerations in our design approach. We carefully selected equipment that allows children of varying abilities to play together in a welcoming, accessible environment. Features such as cradle swings with full-body support, accessible sensory panels and low-level play elements enable younger children and those requiring additional assistance to enjoy the space safely and confidently. We also designed the surfacing and layout to maximise accessibility, linking key play zones and connecting to surrounding pathways where possible.

The refurbished play area, now a vibrant space, offers a broad and exciting range of play opportunities. Traditional favourites such as swings provide the joy of rhythmic movement while supporting balance, coordination and cause-and-effect learning. Our multiplay and themed tractor role-play units encourage imaginative exploration through climbing, crawling and sliding, helping children to build confidence, creativity and physical strength. For older children, more challenging equipment introduces managed risk in a safe and controlled way, promoting problem-solving, resilience and agility as they test and develop their abilities. We chose one of our signature Tough Trail units to provide excitement and challenge for this age group. The Tough Trail, inspired by Ninja Warrior, combines elements of parkour and free running into a safe, playful course for children to conquer!

Sustainability and longevity were essential factors throughout the project. We prioritised durable, low-maintenance materials and incorporated timber from certified sustainable forestry to support our commitment to responsible manufacturing. Any existing equipment was removed and disposed of sustainably, and all new equipment was supplied and installed in full compliance with British and European play standards.

Our experienced Projects Team managed the refurbishment from start to finish, working closely with stakeholders to ensure the project was delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standards. The site itself is tucked away behind residential housing with a long, narrow grass access route that required our team to be especially considerate of neighbouring properties. On completion of the project, a post-installation inspection was planned to confirm compliance and address any snagging issues before handover, providing reassurance that the play area meets all relevant safety requirements.

The completed refurbishment at Bonsey Gardens reflects our commitment at eibe to creating safe, sustainable and inspiring play spaces. The finished play area is a colourful and engaging destination that encourages active play, inclusion and community wellbeing, and we are proud to have delivered a space that local families will enjoy for many years to come.
