One of the latest projects within this successful partnership is the refurbishment of Timberhill Play Area in Caterham, which eibe Play was invited to tender for in late 2025.
Recognising the need to modernise the existing site, Tandridge District Council identified Timberhill Play Area as an important community space requiring new and engaging play opportunities for local families. Located in the heart of Caterham, the play area serves nearby schools, nurseries, residential communities, and families visiting the town centre, making it a key recreational destination for the local area.
Following a successful tender and consultation process, eibe Play was awarded the project, with works commencing in early 2026.
From the outset, accessibility and inclusivity were central to the design. Due to the play area’s close proximity to local amenities and its popularity with families throughout the year, eibe Play carefully designed the space to ensure it remained accessible for all users in all seasons. The layout and surfacing were planned to improve access to every play feature, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for children and caregivers alike.
At the heart of the new play area is an exciting Junior Multi-Play Unit from eibe Play’s innovative Steelox range. Designed for children aged 5–12 years, the unit offers a wide variety of engaging play experiences, including interactive play panels, climbing activities, and an exhilarating tube slide. The structure encourages physical activity, imaginative play, and social interaction, creating endless opportunities for adventure.
Adding a unique local touch to the space is the Sensory Mechanics Workshop, inspired by Caterham’s rich automotive history. Combined with a range of sensory play panels, the area provides creative, educational, and stimulating experiences for children of all abilities.
The play area also features a brand-new combination swing unit designed to bring children together through inclusive play. With junior, toddler, SEN, and nest swing seats included, children of all ages and abilities can enjoy playing side-by-side in a safe and welcoming environment.
The play opportunities continue throughout the site with the addition of a variety of sensory and inclusive play features, including musical chimes, an inclusive roundabout, and a traditional seesaw, all designed to encourage creativity, interaction, and active play.
Despite facing an exceptionally wet winter and early spring, the eibe Play installation team worked tirelessly to complete the project on schedule. The refurbished play area officially opened on a beautiful spring afternoon, celebrated with music from a local DJ and free ice cream for the community, helping create a memorable day for local families and children.
eibe Play is incredibly proud of the transformation of Timberhill Play Area and looks forward to continuing its successful partnership with Tandridge District Council for many years to come, ensuring this fantastic community play space remains a valued destination for local families.
