In late 2024, the Community Council launched a competitive tender process to revitalise its flagship play space. After detailed design submissions and a period of public consultation, during which residents helped shape the future of the park, eibe Play’s proposal was selected to bring the vision to life.
Construction began in June 2025, with eibe’s projects team working closely alongside the Council to ensure the new play area would be accessible, inclusive and engaging for children of all ages and abilities.
A Dragon at the Heart of the Park
At the centre of the redesigned play space stands the eye-catching Big Red Dragon Unit — a bold and imaginative structure that has quickly become the park’s defining feature. Designed to inspire adventure, the dragon offers a range of climbing and balancing challenges, creating a dynamic play experience that encourages physical development, coordination and confidence.
Responding directly to feedback gathered during consultation, two basket swings were installed — a key priority for local families. A new toddler play unit from eibe’s Steelox range complements the main structure, incorporating a wobbly bridge, toddler slide and climbing features to support early-years play in a safe but stimulating environment.
Designed for Inclusive Play
Inclusivity was a central focus throughout the project. The upgraded park now features a wheelchair-accessible carousel and spinning cup, ensuring children of all abilities can enjoy the thrill of movement-based play. Additional inclusive elements include two bug spring rockers with supportive backrests, a Noughts and Crosses play panel, a sensory play panel and a communication board — creating opportunities for imaginative, social and sensory-rich experiences.
Two new benches have also been installed, offering comfortable seating for parents and carers while maintaining clear views across the play area.
Refreshed, Resurfaced and Ready for the Future
Alongside the installation of new equipment, existing swings, the slide and the trampoline were carefully refurbished, extending their lifespan and integrating them into the refreshed design. A new wetpour safety surface was laid across the entire site, improving accessibility, enhancing safety and ensuring the park can be enjoyed all year round with minimal maintenance requirements.
By late August 2025, the project was completed, and the revitalised Undy Play Park officially opened on a sunny afternoon to a strong turnout of local families eager to explore the new facilities.
Since reopening, the Council has received overwhelmingly positive feedback from residents, with the park once again established as a lively hub at the heart of the community.
The successful collaboration between Magor with Undy Community Council and eibe Play has delivered a striking and inclusive play environment — one designed not only for today’s families, but for future generations to enjoy.
