Initial discussions with hospital staff helped eibe Play create some preliminary design concepts, which were presented to the hospital for feedback.
We created distinct zones: a play area for visiting children and a resurfaced seating area for staff. After the hospital secured funding with the help of its fantastic fundraising team, the design process commenced.
The renovated play space now features sensory play elements like play panels and chalkboards, along with nature-themed sculptures that enhance the environment. The removal of decayed sleeper beds and old shrubs made way for a more expansive play area, with safety surfacing that includes nature-themed graphics and a charming artificial stream, complete with a wooden bridge to stimulate imaginative and social play.
The courtyard's periphery is dotted with wooden mouse carvings, and signs prompt children to search for these hidden creatures as they enter.
The play area was opened on a crisp winter’s day, quickly attracting children eager to explore the new facilities.
eibe Play is honoured to have contributed to the development of two key play areas at the hospital in recent years and looks forward to this latest addition, which will provide fun and excitement for children for many years to come.
