eibe Russell up another great play scheme

An imposing Castle Feature is the stand-out play item in a brand new park in Bedfordshire. Opened officially at the beginning of April 2014, Russell Park is a real adventure paradise for kids of differing ages.

The multi-faceted £114,000 playspace, originating from an ESPO tender process in September 2013, boasts an array of interactive and challenging equipment including two large themed bespoke units with DDA access. As well as the Castle Unit with its 2.7m high open spiral slide, wobble bridges, ascents, climbing wall and 2m high slide, sits a Harbour unit perched in sand with appropriate play features, DDA ramps and play panels, crawling tunnels, a 1m double width slide and climbing nets.

Speaking after the launch event, Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said:“The new Russell Park play area was designed and built following extensive public consultation and it was great to see so many children out enjoying the new facilities.

“The play area was designed and built on time and on budget and it provides even more opportunities for young people to enjoy themselves. I am sure it will prove to be a very popular site for young children.”

Councillor Sarah-Jayne Holland, Portfolio Holder for Community and Regulatory Services, added: “The former play area on Russell Park was 25 years old and despite still being very popular was ready for an upgrade.

“This brand new play area is a significant improvement on what was available previously and has also been opened well in time for what we hope will be a warm spring and summer in Bedford Borough, which includes the upcoming Kite Festival and River Festival.”

Fun is surely guaranteed for the rest of the year in Bedford!
